Erotic Art at Musée de l’Erotisme in Paris

Musée de l'Erotisme ParisThis is not your everyday museum. After all, Paris is a city set to titillate and entice its visitors.

You’ll find Musée de l’Erotisme in the red light district of Pigalle in the 18th arrondissement in Paris. But don’t let its seedy location deter you from a visit. Pigalle is also home to the Moulin Rouge and the tiny Chapelle St-Rita across the road from the famous cabaret.

The museum was once a cabaret venue and it houses permanent and temporary exhibitions. You’ll find international erotic artefacts such as pottery, paintings, sculptures and photographs which reveal how primitive religions believed in a connection between sex and religion.

Vintage photographs depict life in brothels and offer an insight for the curious or the open-minded.

So next time you visit Montmartre, wander down towards Musée de l’Erotisme. The museum is open daily from 10 am and unlike others in Paris, it remains open until 2 am. Photography is allowed which is sure to please any voyeur.

Take that Mona Lisa!

I love that photo. We ate in a restaurant opposite the Moulin Rouge so we must have been right near this museum – we were with Barry’s parents though so it’s perhaps fortunate we didn’t know the museum was there. :)

Like you, I’ve been there many times but didn’t see it. I learnt about it through a hotel brochure during the last trip but we never made it there. As for taking Barry’s parents, you never know, they may have surprised you ;)

Love the photo, I have never even heard of this museum but I’m definitely heading there next time I’m in Paris – now only if I can figure out when that is!

Me too. Can’t wait to hop a plane an spend a few weeks in Paris! There’s always something new to see and do.
